DESCRIPTION/EXPERTISE The Toba people or BATAK TOBA are the most numerous of the Batak people of North Sumatra, Indonesia, well known traditionally for the weving , wood crving and especially ornate stone tombs. Ritual cannibalism is well documented among these people, used to strengthen the eater’s tendi.
The mask represented here is a powerful example of Toba Batak art. They are very collectable due to their strength and simplicity.
