Cuchimilco – female clay figure – Chancay – Peru

DESCRIPTION/EXPERTISE
Peru’s chancay culture settled fifty miles north of Lima in the Chancay valley between 900 and 1400 A.D. Cuchimolo figures are almost always presented as a pair to represent family.
Archaeologists have often found “cuchimilcos” in the tombs of Chancay nobility, as they believed that the outstrechted hands absorbed the negative energy to protect the deceased.
