DESCRIPTION/EXPERTISE
This piece shows a rhomb-shaped mask face with a brownish patina, decorated with raised diamond-shaped compartments in the lower and upper plane. There are signs of heavy weathering on its surface. On the northern bank of the western edge if the Middle Sepik lie the Washkuk hills, home to the Kwoma and Nukuma. Their art is usually extremely colorful; probably all paint has been weathered off regarding this piece. The interior of the Men’s House is a riot of spirit and ancestor figures painted and carved onto every available space.
